Nice graphics, an amazing launch title with The Legend of Zelda: BOTW and the possibility of more great titles from Nintendo. The perfect platform for indie games. It feels good in the hands when not using the controllers separately. It appears to be well built besides the screen fragility. However it does have some serious issues. The battery life is mediocre to terrible, the screen can be scratched from the dock, you can’t transfer saves, and the online functionality social aspect is very weak. Nintendo is terrible with anything to do with online functions besides downloading games or charging you money. The framerate in docked mode is worse in some games that it is in handheld mode.
At first glance, Gorogoa doesn’t seem like much more than your average point-and-click puzzle game. However, within minutes of starting and peering through into its wonderful hand-drawn world, it evolves and becomes a multi-layered journey of music and art. It certainly has aspects of both The Room and Monument Valley in its puzzle mechanics, but it’s unlike either of them. Cost of entry may seem a little steep for an adventure that doesn’t last particularly long, but as a total work, it’s more than worth it.
Clearly spawned from a desire to recreate the magic of Wii Sports Boxing, ARMS is a peculiar fighting game with a difference. Holding a Joy-Con controller in each hand, you trade blows with a foe by literally swinging your fists. Thanks to Nintendo’s work building the Joy-Cons, it’s surprisingly accurate and – by customising your fighter’s interchangeable fists – it’s an incredibly accomplished fighter. The inclusion of same-screen, local and online multiplayer is also a nice little bonus and there’s plenty of mini-games and unlockables to keep single-player fans happy too. Nintendo also continually keep updating ARMS with new fighters while balancing its old roster so you’re never short of stuff to do.
The grand old first person shooter arrives confidently on Nintendo Switch, with the hyper violence, lightning fast combat, and awesome heavy metal soundtrack from the well-received PC, PS4 and Xbox One title firmly in tact. Resolution and texture fidelity is slightly down in comparison, however, it makes literally no difference to the gameplay and superb art style, which combine to produce an exhilarating, monster-filled adrenaline rush like nothing else the system. Plus, the fact that you can go portable with the Switch, slaying daemons while on the go, makes this edition of DOOM unique.
“Thank you so much for the service you provide, I’ve been crying myself to sleep every night because destiny is pretty much sold out everywhere. Thanks to you guys, the river has stopped flowing and I has Destiny.” -J Nasty
“If you haven’t pre-ordered Nintendo Switch, quantities will be limited. So be sure to head out to a local Best Buy store ahead of time to snag your spot in line,” the company stated. “The console will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Just like on Black Friday, our stores will have a ticketing process for customers waiting in line. We will only pass out as many tickets as we have consoles available, with a limit of one per customer.”
And this is easily the best portable edition to date, not only packing in huge worlds on the Switch’s capable screen, but also giving you the full range of controls, featuring eight-player online antics, and bundling in a superb set of Super Mario-themed blocks and skins.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing. The original game was tightly designed and well-balanced, and while the sequel makes some minor tweaks to the gameplay, the same Nintendo charm is still present in spades.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a beautiful epic Japanese role-playing game with a cinematic presentation. Its cut-scenes feel larger than life (often like watching a well-written anime movie) and include an optional original Japanese voiceover dub, giving the players the game’s original authentic form.
From the best Zelda ever to the best Mario Kart ever? Believe it! While it might just seem like a mere port on the surface, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe takes the excellent Wii U edition and patches its one big deficiency, all while adding the excellent DLC as standard – and then does more.

Console bundles have been getting a lot of coverage lately, with Microsoft and Sony in particular offering major deals on Xbox One and PSVR bundles this month. The new Xbox One PUBG bundle is already discounted from $299.99 to $249, after only being on the market for a few days. An Xbox One Madden NFL 18 bundle is down to $229.99 now that football season is over. All PSVR bundles are discounted $100 until March 3. When it comes to Nintendo Switch bundles, pretty much anything you can get is better than nothing. Grab a free travel case when you pick up the Switch at Walmart.
I don’t think anyone could read Charlie Hall’s enthusiastic piece about returning to Magic: The Gathering without wanting to get in on the action. MTG has always been super intimidating to me, but I picked up the Mind vs. Might Duel Deck from my local shop this weekend and had a blast. To start building your own deck, grab a Deckbuilder’s Toolkit that has everything you need to get going.
If you’re going to be taking your Switch on the go (and who isn’t?) then you probably want a good case to keep it protected. The Mumba Nintendo Switch case is a sturdy, rubber case that has a good grip to minimize the chance you’ll drop it. And should the unthinkable happen, the bumper is made of shock-handling thermoplastic polyurethane to keep your baby safe.
bought this for myself and my for my kid, though my kid is using it almost all the time. It’s a great system when you can take it with you on the go if you want. The games are a lot more creative and interesting than those you would normally play on phones/tablets. As a dad, it really gives more time to play because of it’s portability. It would almost be impossible to sit down and be allowed to play continuously if you have a young family.
It’s easy to get hooked by Graceful Explosion Machine’s powerfully addictive loop of chaining together enemy kills and chasing high-scores. This intense 2D shoot ‘em up taps into the spirit of great games like Geometry Wars and Resogun, and it sets up tense encounters in small looping hallways where your quad weapons can chew through lots of enemies. But be careful! Mismanaging your power meter can leave you vulnerable to deadly enemies. GEM is an early Switch game that makes great use of HD Rumble to amplify enemy explosions and create interesting effects in the middle of a heated play session.
Let’s face it, the Zelda series was long overdue for a major change, and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild offers an unparalleled sense of freedom and scale in the palm of your hand. It tells a an epic story, as glide, cook, and battle your way across a beautifully ruined version of Hyrule. It helped reinvigorate The Legend of Zelda in a way that fans had only dreamt of, easily propelling it to the number one spot on our list and in our hearts. – Zachary Ryan
A love letter to the entire history of the blue blur, Sonic Mania isn’t just fan service — it’s one of the hedgehog’s strongest outings in years. With clever remixes of old levels and dazzling new ones, Mania pays homage to every era of Sonic with some truly incredible Easter eggs. It’s hard not to get caught up in the mania. – Jonathon Dornbush
After being burned by the terrible product that was the WiiU, which I bought on launch day and waited more than a year with zero decent games, the Switch is a welcome change. My console arrived on launch day with no shipping issues and does not have any of the notable problems. I did add some felt to the dock in order to prevent any scratching, but it was mainly a precaution. The Switch transitions seamlessly between console and portable more and the OS is extremely responsive. It’s definitely not a thin and light tablet, but it works very well. Would love a browser and some additional functionality in order to travel with this as my main tablet. Looking forward to many exciting games!
Console is great, durable and extremely easy to set up. Feels like a Nintendo product and the quality expectations of it. Only downside is no Netflix or other third party app support yet. If you are not into Zelda at the moment I would suggest waiting a little for more content to be released.
