I don’t think anyone could read Charlie Hall’s enthusiastic piece about returning to Magic: The Gathering without wanting to get in on the action. MTG has always been super intimidating to me, but I picked up the Mind vs. Might Duel Deck from my local shop this weekend and had a blast. To start building your own deck, grab a Deckbuilder’s Toolkit that has everything you need to get going.
Nintendo’s new console is also better suited for entertaining children and guests that may not be as interested in video games. The Switch’s JoyCon controllers can detect motion like the Wii’s remotes, opening up possibilities for more casual party games. The best example of this so far is 1,2 Switch, Nintendo’s launch title for the console, which requires players to compete in wacky challenges against one another using the JoyCon remotes.
Why should you buy it? It’s not often that you have a blind protagonist in a game, but that’s exactly what Perception has done. You play as a young girl called Cassie, who’s trying to explain her nightmares by exploring a rather sinister mansion using echolocation and a useful text-to-speech app. As you solve the mansion’s various mysteries, it transforms and presents even more to uncover. Its narrative constantly keeps you feeling tense as you play, and despite the fact your playable character is blind, the experience is very visual. Put on some headphones and immerse yourself in this excellent psychological thriller ASAP.
Since its release in the spring of 2017, the Nintendo Switch has taken the gaming community by storm. A unique hybrid of traditional console and portable gaming unit, the Switch offers an experience unlike any other for gamers.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is a positively staggering JRPG offering hundreds upon hundreds of hours of content for players ready and willing to dig into its sprawling story and uncompromising systems. Its addictive combat system is complimented by an excellent ensemble cast you’ll come to root for as they aim to save the world of Alrest.
Much like our Yoshi pick in this list, Kirby is another fan-beloved character from Nintendo who has starred in his own video game titles for a number of years now. The Nintendo Switch will soon have its own Kirby video game title in 2018 as well with Kirby Star Allies.
By far the best racing game ever, especially for kids, is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for the Nintendo Switch. Both kids and parents alike can enjoy the long-established series of Mario Kart, as the game is filled with classic tracks, characters and that familiar rush from previous iterations. Just make sure that no one gets too into it – it’s that fun.
First the bad news. No retailer has discounted the Switch whatsoever. The Switch escaped Black Friday without so much as a $5 discount (as we predicted earlier). Now the good news — in our most recent search online, Walmart, GameStop and Amazon all have stock of the Switch and are selling it at list price. However, if you want one for Christmas, your best bet is Amazon. Prime members can get it on Christmas Eve for free or on Saturday, December 23 with expedited shipping at $10.99. Otherwise, no store can guarantee delivery by Christmas, so you’ll have to go out and purchase it in person. (If you’re not a Prime member, you can always sign up for a free trial and cancel your membership it when your trial ends).
By far the slickest Nintendo hardware to date. Have played Zelda for over 135 hours and not only is the game great, playing it while on the exercise bike, relaxing around the house was great as I am not tethered to the TV. The concept works as advertised. 1 star off for the barebones UI, lack of cloud saves and unknown online. But I feel like Nintendo has a winner with the Switch.
Super Mario Odyssey is near-perfect. It carried ginormous expectations, but somehow Nintendo has managed to leapfrog over the bar by a huge distance. Offering the most satisfying gameplay experience of any Mario game to date.
Switch has been selling quite well since the console debuted earlier this year; according to Nintendo’s latest earnings report, the system has sold 7.63 million units worldwide through the end of September. Nintendo also says the console is on track to outpace Wii U’s entire lifetime sales by the end of its first year on the market.
Looking for a cheap Nintendo Switch with at least one game? We’ve seen this bundle for less, but if the other bundles sell out, then this is a decent alternative, especially as Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle is still quite new. This is available with the red/blue edition of the Nintendo Switch at Currys.
Unsurprisingly, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe plays exactly like Mario Kart 8 on the Wii U. Thanks to Switch’s fantastic different form factors, multiplayer Mario Kart has literally never been as fun nor as instant. It’s 100% an essential purchase.
When it’s time to head out and meet your friends, simply slide the Switch gaming system out of the dock and take it with you on the go. If you want to take on your buddy in your favourite game, place the Switch on a table top and detach the wireless joycon contollers from each side to start your multiplayer game!
The Hori Tough Pouch for Nintendo Switch protects your device between gaming sessions without much effort. A flap inside shields the console’s touchscreen. Its shell is reinforced to handle impacts from other things in your bag,
The nintendo switch is awesome as a handheld and as a day-to-day home console. I have been playing Legend Of Zelda BOTW non-stop XD. Theswitch is godlike compared to the Wii U. Great decision. worth the price
Nintendo has capitalized on the fact that many people want to play good games with real controllers on the go. You could recreate the same thing on a phone by buy some unknown brand of bluetooth controller but for the average person, that is way to complicated and frustrating. For the money, this is an extremely capable machine. People complain about the price but when you consider the cost of the controllers that are included, it’s comparable to buying super powerful tablet with a lower resolution screen. It’s not overpriced at all really. As for overpriced, I can’t say the same about the indie games – they are good but you’ll pay way more for these types of games on the switch then you would on Steam. It really hurts to pay 33 dollars for something like Shovel Night Treasure Chest – but on the other hand, I can’t carry my gaming tower and monitor onto the train to play it. By the way, Zelda is perhaps a “perfect” game. I’m more of a fallout/GTA5 fan at home and I’ve never played a Zelda game before, but wow, Breath of the Wild is fun to play. I play it mostly in portable mode and it’s great on the small screen. So in summary, the switch is totally worth the money and you won’t be disappointing with the screen (for gaming) or the build quality. You will need to be cautious about what games you buy because some of the games being peddled on the store are not worth what is being charged. Check out as many reviews online before buying anything besides Nintendo titles – for example you will discover that shovel night is worth it – others are not.
The same goes with the Nintendo Switch. Sellers who have managed to get their hands on the consoles are selling them on eBay for at least $100 over the retail price. There are also third-party sellers on sites like Amazon and Walmart.com listing Nintendo Switches for $97 to $150 above the retail price.
