I haven’t really been a Nintendo player since the GameCube. I dabbled in the Wii but didn’t own one. The system feels and plays great. The modular design of the joy con is very cool and playing in handheld mode is an experience unrivalled by anyone. Zelda and Mario Kart are both probably the best entries in their respective franchises from my experience. Arms, Splatoon, Mario Odyssey, etc – although not yet released as of the time of this writing – all look to be of a similar high quality. Very happy to be an owner and to see Nintendo re-reach its prime.
A great co-op title you can grab physically or download digitally from the Nintendo eShop. Up to four players can play locally on one TV to serve up tasty orders across a range of kitchens, each with its own set of obstacles. It may even inspire you to ditch the Pot Noodles in favour of some home-cooked grub IRL.
What memory cards does the Nintendo Switch need? Those will be Micro SD cards also known as, depending on their size, as MicroSDHC (up to 32GB) or MicroSDXC (up to a huge 2TB soon). Nintendo will be releasing their own branded cards, but you’ll be paying more, just for a label. So for now, we’d take a look at this range of cheap MicroSDXC Nintendo Switch-friendly cards.

Before buying anything from an individual or a third-party seller you’ve never heard of, verify the seller actually has the item, and find out exactly when and how it will be shipped. Check if shipping is free, or at least reasonably priced, as well.
However, do keep in mind your health and energy as you’ll need to make sure your character is in tip-top shape in order to avoid suffering from exhaustion. Lose health and you lose a considerable amount of money and items you’ve worked hard to attained. Stardew Valley will have you hooked for hours on end, for better or worse. (Better, definitely better.)
This special enhanced edition of the Wii U smash was one of the first big tests for the Switch. How would a game initially built to be played exclusively on a console strapped to a TV translate to a system made to be taken anywhere? The answer: about as well as anybody could expect. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe collected every scrap of bonus content for one of the best games of the decade, added a nostalgic return to a classic battle mode, and made all of it perfectly portable thanks to the Switch’s unique capabilities. If anybody was worried that Breath of the Wild would be a one-hit wonder for the Switch, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe gave them hope.
So whether you’ve just grabbed the Switch and need a few pointers, or are you just looking for something new to play after conquering Zelda, you’ll find plenty of inspiration in our list of the 20 best games the Switch has to offer.
Imagine Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots on steroids, and you’ll have a pretty clear picture of what it’s like to play Arms. As its name implies, the game is all about your character’s arms and how you use them. The fighting game includes a roster of brawlers equipped with spring-loaded extendable arms that are used to pound enemies in a variety of ways. Each type of arm brings its own advantage: certain arms are capable of dealing multiple shots at once, while curved arms can be helpful for cornering opponents. Arms puts the Joy-Con’s motion controls to excellent use, although the game is plenty fun when played as a more traditional fighting title too.
Nice graphics, an amazing launch title with The Legend of Zelda: BOTW and the possibility of more great titles from Nintendo. The perfect platform for indie games. It feels good in the hands when not using the controllers separately. It appears to be well built besides the screen fragility. However it does have some serious issues. The battery life is mediocre to terrible, the screen can be scratched from the dock, you can’t transfer saves, and the online functionality social aspect is very weak. Nintendo is terrible with anything to do with online functions besides downloading games or charging you money. The framerate in docked mode is worse in some games that it is in handheld mode.

This game requires you to unleash your imagination to create your own Skylanders that will battle Kaos and his minions. What’s fascinating about the game is that your own Skylanders will not go it alone; thanks to Eon who calls upon Senseis, the greatest mystic warriors of Skylands. Just like your own Skylanders, Sensies’ mission is to save Skylands from Kaos, and so they will fight alongside your own Skylanders for redemption.
Puyo Puyo Tetris combines the most iconic puzzler of all time with an adorable bubble block puzzle game to create something entirely new and unique. Including a bizarre story mode, players can choose to play rounds of Puyo Puyo, Tetris, or fusions of the two.
Bayonetta 2 is an excellent game, with fast-paced and satisfying combat, jaw-dropping animations and frankly outstanding fashion. Even better, when you purchase a physical copy of Bayonetta 2, you’ll also receive a free download code for the original game.
Chances are you’ve played Shovel Knight on one system or another in previous years, but if you’ve yet to take the game on the go, or better yet if you’re looking to try its newest expansion pack, ‘Specter of Torment’, then the Switch is as good a place as any to satisfy your Shovel cravings.
Having released on PS4, PC and Xbox One in 2016, Furi’s arrival on Switch may be late but, like it’s siblings, it’s absolutely essential for anyone who loves a challenge. For those that don’t know, Furi is a neon-soaked, techno-futuristic action shooter that pits you against increasingly difficult boss fights as you break your way out of a maximum-security space prison. Visually, it’s as if Afro Samurai and Far Cry: Blood Dragon had a lovechild with a synthwave backing track. Brilliant.
“The machine can be used both as a home console and handheld device so the higher price is understandable to some extent, but there aren’t really enough software titles to justify that start price,” he said.
Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle makes the best Nintendo Switch role-playing game overall due to its positive acclaim, fresh creative design and gameplay. The winner of over 50 E3 awards and nominations brings a brand new cross over role-playing game with tactical play style only exclusive on the Nintendo Switch.
If you’ve been playing Minecraft: Nintendo Edition, you may have discovered that you can’t split your Joy-Con controller to share with a friend in multiplayer mode. Looks like it’s time to invest in that second L/R Joy-Con pack. These Joy-Cons are almost as elusive as the Switch itself, especially the neon model, but they are still available at some places, and restock faster than the Switch.
When it’s time to head out and meet your friends, simply slide the Switch gaming system out of the dock and take it with you on the go. If you want to take on your buddy in your favourite game, place the Switch on a table top and detach the wireless joycon contollers from each side to start your multiplayer game!

What makes the Switch an even better value than the Wii U and other preceding consoles, however, is the fact that it can double as a portable. This means gamers won’t have to spend extra on a DS device to play games when they’re away from the TV. With the Switch, you’re spending $300 for a stationary and portable console when you’d otherwise have to spend between $80 and $200 for a DS (depending on the model) and $300 for a Wii U bundle. From that perspective, the Switch looks like a bargain.

The Joy-Con is more than just a fancy controller. In addition to the amazing configurability, the Joy-Con boasts IR sensors that detect shape, motion, and distance of objects around the player. The HD rumble technology takes vibration feedback to the next level. All told, the Joy-Con produces an immersive experience that is remarkable for the relatively low cost.
As someone who travels a great deal, the Switch is everything I’ve ever wanted out of a home console. At first I thought the commercials were goofy, with people taking it and setting it up in just about any place, but I can honestly say that with a small backpack I am able to take everything I need to get the party started just about anywhere I go. To date Ive set it up: in an airport, in a pub, at friends houses, and even at work. The joy-cons are easy to get accustomed to, and though software available as of the date of writing this is minimal, the library of titles set to release has be excited! Pros: * Easy to pick up * Accessible learning curve * Battery lasts approx 4 hours (playing Zelda Breath of the Wild) without making use of power saver settings. * Seamlessly transitions from portable handheld to hard-wired console as advertised * Great weight to it (good hand feel). Doesn’t feel overly heavy, and not light enough to make it feel cheap. * Comfortable controllers in multiple configurations. Cons: * MUST MUST MUST use a quality screen protector before docking it even just once (otherwise you run the risk of scratching the screen). * Connecting the Joy-con wrist strap (not included in the box) is easy, disconnecting it is frustratingly difficult. In my group of friends I’m the only one able to consistently do it with moderate ease (and that took a ton of practice). * Software available at release is a little on the slim side. Huge titles are planned within the first year (waiting sucks!)
Gather your family and friends because there is something to cheer about. The Just Dance 2018 Nintendo Switch is great for those who love pop music or want to indulge in playing a great game with family or want to cut the rug in style. Remember, songs are available through Just Dance Unlimited Subscription or Just Dance Unlimited Trial. The game features all the hottest hits of the year and it is fun for all ages, holidays, and parties.
There are also a number of tracking services such as Zoolert, BrickSeek, Now in Stock, and the recently created Nintendo Switch Finder, which promise to give shoppers a heads up where and when hard-to-find toys and electronics are available. Proceed with caution, though: These services tend to be hit or miss (some people complain the notices are inaccurate or too late to be useful), and you often have to subscribe to emails to receive alerts.
Nintendo’s online gaming service is currently free for a trial period, but will become a subscription service in 2018. The service will cost $20 per year in the US (about £15 or AU$30). Prices for other countries have yet to be announced. Nintendo says almost all of the games will need a paid service subscription to play online.
We don’t know how much stock Nintendo is holding back for the physical launch of the system, nor how many have been pre-sold. We’ll be updating this post as we get more information and retailers announce plans, but if you’re serious about your quest I would begin calling local retailers now to see if they have any information about how they’re handling lines or stock, and call daily until they know for sure.
This sometimes top-down, sometimes 2D side-scroller is a remade game from the early days of the NES. Blaster Master Zero follows the same ridiculous premise as the original but adds new weapons, areas, and bosses into the mix. We thought this remake was a little easy overall but, whether you’re fighting in the Sophia III tank or on foot as a soldier, there’s plenty of powerups and secrets to uncover.
Your Joy-Cons don’t have a charger outside of what you get on the actual Nintendo Switch, and that can be a problem if you’ve got multiple pairs of controllers and don’t always connect them to your console. Fortunately, Orbeet makes a nice 4-in-1 charger with 2 additional USB ports for charging Pro Controllers.
Despite it still being early days for Switch, the console is already home to several multi-million sellers. Unsurprisingly, Nintendo’s best-selling title on the system is The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, which launched alongside it back in March. As of September 30, the game has sold 4.70 million copies worldwide.
