A good boss battle can really get the heart pumping. Furi recognises this, and consists of nothing but a series of boss fights connected by cutscenes. Armed with a few basic moves (slashing, shooting, parrying and dashing), your aim is to learn each opponent’s attack pattern and exploit their weaknesses to defeat them. Each boss is wonderfully designed by Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki, and all have different fighting styles, ensuring that what might easily have been a repetitive concept is kept fresh throughout. An extremely difficult but rewarding game.

Stop giggling, that’s what these are actually called! A number of talented folks out there have started making and selling simple cloth covers for the front part of Nintendo Switch Docks, adding a little bit of style and protection to your setup. There are a bunch of different designs, but more importantly these $17 Dock Socks keep the Switch display from being accidentally scratched by the plastic edges of the Switch Dock.

Nintendo’s wicked little hybrid console is already flying. Despite the fact the Nintendo Switch is just coming up on its first birthday, it’s already gotten to the point where narrowing down our picks for the 25 best Switch games is proving very tricky indeed. Along with the big names like Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, there are other stellar games like the RTS Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle or platformer Rayman Legends: Definitive Edition too. Oh, and did we mention that there are a ton of Nindies (Nintendo’s indie games) around at bargain prices if you want to save some cash?

The Switch is an incredibly versatile console, but Nintendo Switch accessories allow you to customize the way you play even further. You can use two Joy-Con controllers independently in each hand, slip them both into a grip for a conventional controller feel, or connect a strap to one controller to use it like a Wii-mote. If you prefer a traditional controller, try a Nintendo Switch pro controller that works with any mode and includes motion controls and two analog control sticks. Get cool in-game extras with amiibo figures. Simply tap your amiibo figure to the designated spot on the controller to unlock new characters, game modes or other perks. Some games even let you level up or customize your character using an amiibo.

The adaptable Joy-Con offer multiple surprising new ways for players to have fun. Two Joy-Con can be used independently, one in each hand, or together as one game controller when attached to the Joy-Con grip. They can also attach to the main console for use in handheld mode, or be shared with friends to enjoy two-player action in supported games. Each Joy-Con has a full set of buttons and can act as a standalone controller, and each includes an accelerometer and gyroscope motion sensor, making independent left and right motion control possible.

Imagine Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots on steroids, and you’ll have a pretty clear picture of what it’s like to play Arms. As its name implies, the game is all about your character’s arms and how you use them. The fighting game includes a roster of brawlers equipped with spring-loaded extendable arms that are used to pound enemies in a variety of ways. Each type of arm brings its own advantage: certain arms are capable of dealing multiple shots at once, while curved arms can be helpful for cornering opponents. Arms puts the Joy-Con’s motion controls to excellent use, although the game is plenty fun when played as a more traditional fighting title too.

Now, nine months later, the Switch boasts an expansive roster of impressive games that range from ports of cherished third-party releases to new Nintendo titles that are bound to be remembered as classics.

Puyo Puyo Tetris combines the most iconic puzzler of all time with an adorable bubble block puzzle game to create something entirely new and unique. Including a bizarre story mode, players can choose to play rounds of Puyo Puyo, Tetris, or fusions of the two.

Granted it isn’t a perfect port: you can’t enjoy its most popular mode, Ultimate Team, without an internet connection, and The Journey is absent. But if you want to enjoy a brilliant game of football on a Nintendo platform, this is the best example of it.

BD&A offers a snap-on folio that covers the display when not in use and gives the Switch a few more options when in its kickstand mode for portable gameplay. If you plan to travel a lot with your Switch, this $24 accessory is perfect for keeping it safe.

Minecraft features two gameplay options: Survival and Creative Mode. Kids who play Survival Mode will have to mine deep for resources and building materials and will be forced to fend off giant spiders, skeletons, zombies and other mobs of enemies when the sun sets. Creative Mode offers a more relaxed way of playing, giving infinite resources for players build whatever they want on their own time at their own pace. The game also features a multiplayer mode, so kids and their friends or parents can join in on building something together.

The portability of this console is awesome. I can take it anywhere. I even bring it to work and we have FIFA tournaments at lunch. With the announcement of Metroid Prime 4 set to launch on december 28th 2018, this console is by far the best one to come out of Nintendo. Love it. Love it.

There’s so much to like about Ultra Street Fighter II: The Final Challengers it is hard to know where to begin. From its engorged character roster (there are 19 combatants) to its excellent selection of game modes including a slick multiplayer suite, and onto its plethora of neat extras including new and improved graphics and sound options (you can switch between old and new), colour editor, replay system, beginner-friendly “Lite” control option and art-stuffed gallery mode, this classic versus fighter is better than ever on Nintendo Switch.

  1. The Joy-Con Grip is an additional accessory that joins the two Joy-Con controllers together, forming something something a bit more solid for you to hold thanks to the extended handles and plastic block between the two sides. The square dimension form-factor may remind older gamers of the Dreamcast controller, while everyone else will mainly be thinking how it resembles an odd-looking dog face. Nintendo is providing one in the box with the Nintendo Switch, so you won’t have to buy one separately. This won’t charge your controller though and doesn’t have a battery pack.
Remember Knock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots? How about Punch-Out on the NES? Combine the two, and inject a dose of motion-controlled multiplayer mayhem, and you have Arms. The title refers to the extendable, weaponised limbs that each character packs.
